CATALOGING LIBRARIAN   

Full-time, 11 month faculty contract 

POSITION SUMMARY:    Responsible for active participation in and leadership of cataloging and cataloging-related services. Develop and maintain cataloging policies, standards, goals, and procedures.  Perform descriptive and subject cataloging, create shelf numbers, and maintain shelf list entries.  Review and complete pre-copy-cataloging, and as appropriate, supervise staff and student assistants.  Perform full, original cataloging as needed.  Provide authority control. Withdraw records and/or holdings data from the catalog and OCLC, as needed.   Communicate changes in the shelf list, cataloging functions, and authority control. Provide new library resources reports for faculty. Responsible for new cataloging initiatives and projects, including re-cataloging. Represent NWC at designated CLIC committees. Provide interactive patron reference services.  Participate in reference policy development and enhancement.  Create and maintain information tools (bibliographies, guides, etc.)  Evaluate the reference collection and recommend reference acquisitions. Provide one-on-one information literacy and bibliographic instruction.  Participate in classroom information literacy and bibliographic instruction.  Collaborate with academic and library faculty to establish and maintain instruction programs.  Serve as a faculty liaison between the library and specified academic departments to assist in the development of their areas of the library collection and use of library resources. Serve as an academic advisor, attend faculty meetings, serve on various faculty committees and other service to the Northwestern College community.

QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree in Library/Information Science from an ALA accredited program required; second Master’s degree in a subject field preferred.  Previous related library work experience a minimum of two years required.

Salary is dependent on qualifications and experience.

Job Description:
The College of St. Catherine in St. Paul/Minneapolis is the largest Catholic college for women in the country with a long-standing reputation for academic excellence. The College of St. Catherine Libraries invite applicants for the position of Head of Technical Services and Collection Management, a faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning August 1, 2008.

Responsibilities:
This is a management level position within the libraries, along with the Library Director, the Head of Access Services in St. Paul, and the Minneapolis Campus Librarian, participating in overall library planning with special responsibility for collection management and maintenance and technical services operations. This position manages the technical services team operations for the two campus libraries; plans, organizes, and evaluates the effectiveness and efficiency of procedures and workflow for selection, acquisitions, processing, bibliographic control, cataloging and metadata; collection management and maintenance; develops new workflow routines for projects and new materials types; and stays abreast of new technology, national developments and best practices in order to integrate these into the libraries as appropriate. The incumbent supervises the Cataloging/Metadata Librarian and three support staff positions. Responsibilities include serving as library liaison to assigned academic departments and participating in reference service, teaching, and training in collaboration with colleagues. Active participation and collaboration with colleagues in college, library and consortium committees and service is required.

Qualifications:
Master's degree in Library/Information Science from an American Library Association accredited program. Five years of academic library supervisory experience in a technical services area. Knowledge of acquisitions, serials management, and collection management in an academic library. Current knowledge of standards and rules for MARC, LC, AACRII, and OCLC. Evidence of strong planning, budgetary, and project management skills. Knowledge and experience with an integrated system such as III. Knowledge of emerging library technologies including the management of electronic resources and the future of the ILS. Evidence of scholarly activity appropriate to the Assistant Professor level. Demonstrated ability to foster a cooperative work environment within Technical Services, the libraries and other departments in the academic community. Strong leadership, written and verbal communication, interpersonal and organizational skills. Ability to manage change.

Preferred Qualifications:
Second Master's degree. Business or Health Science subject expertise. Experience with Innovative Interfaces. Teaching and/or training experience. Experience in electronic resources management. Knowledge of digitizing project management.
